A LOVE LETTER TO SAN MIGUEL: FERNANDA & JORGE’S WEDDING WEEKEND AT CASA DE ADELA

Fernanda and Jorge have been together since high school, building a life together in California while remaining deeply connected to their families. When it came time to plan their wedding, celebrating in Mexico felt especially meaningful. Hosting their wedding weekend in San Miguel de Allende made it easier for Fernanda’s family to be there while giving both families the rare opportunity to slow down, stay together, and experience the weekend as one.

Casa de Adela became their home away from home—a beautiful, intimate property surrounded by gardens, textured architecture, cactus, and the warmth of the San Miguel landscape.

A Full Wedding Weekend in San Miguel de Allende

The celebration began the night before with a traditional callejoneada through San Miguel de Allende. With mariachi, larger-than-life mojigangas of Fernanda and Jorge, and their favorite people walking alongside them, the evening felt less like a formal welcome party and more like the beginning of one very long celebration. We eventually made our way to a rooftop overlooking the city for dinner and more time together.

The following day, everything stayed at Casa de Adela. Fernanda and Jorge spent the morning getting ready with their closest friends before sharing a first look and portraits around the property. Their outdoor ceremony was followed by cocktails—along with a little unexpected summer rain—and an intimate dinner surrounded by family and friends.

What I remember most is how intentionally they moved through the day. They made time for their people.

And then they made time to party.

Throughout the night, there seemed to be a new surprise every thirty minutes: costumes, T-shirts, fog, dancing, Pikachu and dinosaur balloons, and eventually a late-night banda that carried everyone toward 2 a.m. The only reasonable way to end it? Fernanda, Jorge, and their friends jumping straight into the pool.

Photographing Fernanda’s wedding felt particularly personal. She is a fellow Bay Area photographer whom I’ve had the honor of mentoring and introducing more deeply to film photography. Somewhere along the way, documenting this weekend began to feel less like photographing clients and more like celebrating with new friends and family.

Their photographs and Super 8 film hold onto different pieces of that feeling—the quiet, the movement, the traditions, the ridiculousness, and all the love in between.
